This past week in class we discussed how some artists are using apps for the iPhone to help in marketing and to even gain new fans. T-Pain has taken this idea & made it a runaway success. To date, his app has over 300k users. In a move which will more than likely boost sales, they've added a contest to go along with the app. You can create a video using the song "I'm On A Boat"using the iPhone app & you could win $5,000 and a "big ass chain."
I think this will help T-Pain fans feel more connected to the artist & it's possible to gain new fans from a contest like this. T-Pain is keeping his name out there, even though he hasn't had a new single in over a year. Whether you love it or hate it, T-Pain's usage of autotune is something that stays a hot topic. With this app, you too can sing like T-Pain. A great marketing move by T-Pain to keep his name relevant in my opinion.
